In 1905, Lord Curzon reached Kuari Pass (3640m). Kuaripass means "door way".

He made the trek, and since then it is also known as the Curzon trail.

The main attraction of it is the imposing view of the eastern peaks of Garhwal Himalayas,

the twin peaks of Nanda Devi, Kamet, Dronagiri, Trishul, Bertholi,

Hathi Ghodi Parvat, Mana, and Neelkanth peaks.

The trek passes through Pristine Rhododendron, oak and deodar forest.

Rarely Himalayan flora and fauna are found as plenty as on this trail.

GHAT TO TAPOVAN via KUARI PASS

 

  – SHORT TREK -

Days: 5.  Grade – 2 (moderate)

Day 1: 8 km trek to Gorson via Auli with packed lunch, dinner and overnight in tent.

Day 2: 7 km trek to Chitrakantha, lunch, dinner and overnight in tent.

Day 3: 6 km trek to Khulara with packed lunch and overnight in tent.

Day 4: Early morning, 4 km trek to Kuaripass with packed lunch and back to camp.

Day 5: 14 km trek down to Tapovan with packed lunch; further 15 km motor road to Joshimath.

 

– LONGER TREK –

Days: 8 / 9.  Grade - 2 (moderate)

Day 1: to Ghoni (Ghat), 112 km from Rishikesh, duration 8 / 10 hours, altitude 1330m.

A nice camp site from where one can enjoy the view of small villages & the flushing Nandakini river.

 

Day 2: Ghoni to Ramni, 15 km trek , duration 7 / 8 hours, 2200 m.

Next day early morning from Ghoni, the steep 5 km trek trails leads

through small villages fields and houses,

the rest of the trek is soft up and down through a conifer & oak forest.

 

Day 3: Ramni to Semkharak (12 km), duration 7 / 8 hours, 2060 m.

Trek through beautiful forest, sometimes with a nice view of snow peaks.

It is up hill trek for the first 4 hours. After, up and down easy trek.

Day 4: Semkharak to Pana (14 km), duration 7 / 8 hours, 2448 m.

Trek to Pana, the last village on our route before we reach Kuaripass.

First 2 hours descend, then steep ascend to Pana. On the way there is

a beautiful view over the valley.

Day 5: Pana to Dhakwani (15 km), duration 8 / 9 hours, 3668 m.

Long trek through forests, creeks with wild life around. After 2 hours, descend to Syaartoli from

where we can see the view of Kuaripass. Then a long ascend to Dhakwani.

Day 6: Dhakwani to Khulara via Kuari pass (12 km ). duration 4 / 5 hours, 4268 m.

Steep ascend from Dhakwani to Kuaripass.

Amazing wide view of snow peaks rewarding all the efforts to reach the top.

6 of the highest peaks of the Indian Himalayas can be seen from here,

over almost the whole Garhwal Himalayas,

the great group of peaks to the north and to the west of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary:

Dronagri, Berthatoli, Hathi Ghodi Parwat, Mana Peak, Kamet, Neelkanth and Trishul are among them.

During the descent from the Pass, the Nanda Devi can be seen.

Day 7: 5 km trek to Dayali Sera, 3789 m., and back to Khulara.

Trek to a huge flat meadow area, from where one can enjoy the Nanda ranges very close & the sightseeing

of the topest lofty peaks around Garhwal Himalayas.

This whole area is covered with plants, ayurvedic medicine ones, and beautiful flowers.

After Dayali Sera, we come back to Khulara via Pangarchuli peak around the Kuaripass area (5180 m.).

Day 8: Possibility of one day rest at Khulara to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.

Day 9: Khulara to Dhak (near Tapovan) via Boad kund, 12 km, duration 7 / 8 hours.

Trek down to Dhak via Boad Kund. The local villages worshiped this lake as Nag (Cobra) Lake.

On the way we can enjoy some of the lofty peaks of Garhwal Himalayas.

15 km drive to Joshimath.

COSTS include:  Road transportation from Rishikesh to Rishikesh by car, Accommodation in Medium Class Hotels (where applicable) on a twin sharing basis, all Meals,  tents  on twin share basis, cooking tent and utensils, table and chairs, permits and entrance fees, English speaking guide, cooks and porters/mules. We serve variety of food on our trips which includes Indian, western and Chinese.
